Since 2017, Koen Kusters has been based in Toronto working as independent writer and researcher. Formerly a partner in WiW – Global Research and Reporting, a consortium of journalists
writing about environmental conservation and international development. Also worked as a lecturer at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and as a researcher at the Center for International Forestry Research in Indonesia. Earned a Ph.D. in environmental science, and a master’s degree in human geography at the University of Amsterdam.
