In 2016, the Luxembourg Stock Exchange launched the Luxembourg Green Exchange, the first platform entirely dedicated to sustainability-focused financial instruments. The brain behind it was that of Julie Becker, who realized that without significant public and private financing, the Paris Agreement and U.N. Sustainable Development Goals would never be achieved.
A perfectionist with a contagious laugh, Becker has guided the Luxembourg Green Exchange through its first few years of growth, keeping its leading global market share of all listed green, social and sustainability bonds worldwide, worth approximately 230 billion Euros in total.
It came as no surprise when she was recently appointed Deputy CEO of the Luxembourg Stock Exchange – a testament to how she’s successfully built her career in the Luxembourg financial sector over the past two decades, focusing the past years on transforming the landscape of the Grand Duchy to become a global hub for sustainable finance.
But then again, she’s never been one too pleased by anything less than the exceptional. “What I really like are strong sensations,” she says on her passion for nature. “To feel the wind… the immensity of oceans… That makes me feel alive.”
