“Wetlands are not merely ecosystems, they are our life.” 💚

Dayana Blanco (@blancoquirogadayana), co-founder of @uru_uru_team and 2024 Restoration Steward for #Wetlands, is leading an Indigenous- and women-led effort to restore Lake Uru Uru in Bolivia, combating mining & plastic pollution with traditional knowledge.

🏆 Her transformative work earned her recognition at #COP15Wetlands in Zimbabwe with the 2025 Ramsar Wetland Indigenous Peoples Conservation and Wise Use Award @conventiononwetlands!

The Uru Uru team, which also leads the GLFx Uru Uru chapter, uses native totora plants to clean up their sacred lake, hold dialogues and keep a community garden to protect nature, connect with their ancestor, and achieve #foodsovereignty.

For Dayana, this is no simple task: “So far, our experience has been very challenging, but also very rewarding, because we are keeping our home and nature alive, and restoring a legacy from our ancestors.”
